Why Is This€30M Liverpool Midfielder Snubbing Nottingham Forest–And What Other Options Does He Have?

Harvey Elliott rejects Nottingham Forest

City Ground Nottingham Forest

According to a report in Football Insider, Harvey Elliott is not interested in joining Nottingham Forest and the Liverpool midfielder has already ruled out a move to the City Ground.

In Klopp’s final season in charge, Elliott had made 53 appearances and was a key part of the manager’s plans at Liverpool. However, under Arne Slot, the academy graduate has fallen down the pecking order. This campaign, he’s started in only 18 Premier League matches and according to rumours, Slot does not consider him part of his long-term plans.

While Liverpool are not actively looking to offload him, they won’t mind cashing in on him if a good offer comes in. His current market value is €30 million and Liverpool have put a price tag of around €50 million on Harvey Elliott.

Why isn’t Harvey Elliott interested in joining Nottingham Forest?

Forest are one of the primary candidates who are interested in signing the midfielder and based on their great performances this season, the management has been confident of signing him.

However, Elliott does not want to play under Nuno Espirito Santo because he feels Forest’s game plan does not suit his playing style.

Under Nuno, Forest play with a low-block and have a counter-attacking style of football whereas Harvey Elliott wants to join a club where he can dominate possession and control games from start to finish. Liverpool are one of the most dominant teams in Europe and the midfielder wants to join a team that replicates a similar philosophy.

His numbers have not been great this season but in the 2023/24 campaign, Elliott made six league assists with an xA of 4.62 and he also created 37 major chances with a passing accuracy of 88%.

If not Forest, then what are his other options?

If Harvey Elliott sticks to his demands then Nottingham Forest are set to miss out but thankfully, the 22-year-old has a long list of suitors.

In Germany, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen have been heavily linked with the midfielder and at both these clubs he will have the luxury of playing how he desires. Both these Bundesliga sides approach games with an attacking mindset so Elliott will get plenty of chances to shine.

If he prefers to continue in the Premier League then he has options like Newcastle United, Brighton and Wolves among a few others. These three clubs also try to play a fluid possession-based football so the English U21 international won’t have to adjust too much. Also, with the Magpies, Harvey will have the chance to continue in the Champions League.

Harvey Elliott has spent all his time in England and we think he will want to remain in the Premier League and because he was in Fulham’s youth system till 2019, the midfielder might also want to go back to Craven Cottage.
