Michael Carter-Williams put together a respectable nine-year NBA career that most who grew up playing basketball would love to have. But this may not be the end of his journey as an athlete.
Nowadays, Carter-Williams can be found frequently posting on social media about sports that he happens to be watching. Much of the time, this is about combat sports, which he has developed a love for.
Carter-Williams has actually picked up boxing as a way to stay in shape after his basketball career came to an end. And on Friday, Carter-Williams actually took part in his first amateur boxing match at a charity fight card designed to raise money for the non-profit organization Big Vision Community called Broad Street Brawl New York.
His first boxing match ended up being a success, beating his 36-year-old opponent, Sam Khatib, which he livestreamed on his Instagram account.

It remains unclear whether the former Syracuse product will end up delving into a full-fledged boxing career. But in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Carter-Williams didn’t rule out the possibility.
“I don’t know where it’s going to take me or where it’s going to lead me,” Carter-Williams said ahead of his debut. “I know that there’s an avenue for people who played professional sports, who enter the boxing ring. There’s a lane there. I don’t know, I’m kind of taking it one step at a time. It’s one of those things I definitely want to keep getting better at.”
