The 34-year-old remains a key player for Marco Silva’s side, with this season seeing him back at his best and bagging 14 goals and three assists in 43 games in the Premier League.
He continues to be one of the leading lights for Mexico in Europe and has now made his for his country too, after previously being frozen out by the old regime.
That means he’s back playing among the best players his country has to offer and when asked which of them he would sign for Fulham if he could, he didn’t hesitate to name Vega.
“Which player would I bring to Fulham? Right now, based on his current form, Alexis Vega,” he said.
“I think he’s having a good run, and I think he would help a lot. He’s doing an incredible job at Toluca… he has the versatility to play on the wing, in the middle as a second striker, or as a winger, not just in a fixed position.”
As is often the case when the Fulham man is interviewed, he was asked about a return to his homeland on the club level.
He’s long been linked with such a move, having admitted publicly that he intends to play for his old club America again before he retires.
At 34-years-old now could be the ideal time given he’s in the latter stages of his career, but he insists that is not in his thinking for now.
“I’ve always wanted more; I’ve never been satisfied with what I already have,” he added.
“If I can continue competing at the highest level for many years, I’m happy. I know I have the ability, and if there’s a team that believes in me, all the better.”
