‘Contractual clause’ included in Charly Alcaraz contract at Everton – May explain surprise decision

Charly Alcaraz’s deal at Everton includes the option of a third year if a ‘contractual clause’ is met in the next two years.

That’s [according to journalist Bruno Lemos](https://x.com/Lemos_Santos/status/1928809242338775206), who reports that Alcaraz’s initial two-year deal at Everton could be extended to three years.

Everton announced an official deal for Alcaraz today after reports this week that they intended to sign the loanee on a permanent basis.

The midfielder has spent the second half of this season on loan from Flamengo. It included a mandatory purchase clause, but several reports have insisted that was not met.

Everton have decided to activate it anyway, with it believed they will be paying around €15m, plus €3m in bonuses for the Argentine. He returns to England from a short, unsuccessful spell at Flamengo after joining them from Southampton last summer.

Some eyebrows were raised when Everton announced the deal today as they confirmed that Alcaraz was only signing a two-year deal with eh club. That seemed a strange decision given Everton would have to re-enter negotiations with him next summer or risk losing him on a free in 2027.

Lemos, though, reports that the contact Alcaraz has signed includes the option for his contract to be extended by a third year.

“More on Charly Alcaraz. New contract between the player and Everton,” he wrote on X.

“Initial contract of 2 years, with the possibility of being extended for another year, subject to a contractual clause.”
