Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Greg Bell is on his way to becoming a star with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.
Bell last played in the NFL in 2023 when he joined the Steelers for training camp and was on and off their practice squad.
An undrafted free agent out of San Diego State in the 2022 NFL Draft, he inked a deal with the Detroit Lions first before coming to the Steelers.
Bell, 26, took the leap to the CFL, hoping to become a real contributor. In his first year, he did just that, and he is well on his way to star status.
Bell averaged 6.6 yards per carry, rushing for 625 yards and six touchdowns in just eight games with the Tiger-Cats. In addition, he caught 29 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown. He had limited time this preseason, but impressed in his short stints.
Tiger-Cats head coach Scott Milanovich has already named Bell the starting running back for his second season with the team as he looks to ascend to superstardom.
“Greg is the starter as long as he’s healthy,” Milanovich said via the Canadian Press. “There’s no doubt about that... He’s dynamic, he’s explosive. He’s a threat in the run game ... he’s a threat in the pass game and does a good job protecting. He’s an all-around back. He has a chance to have a really good year if he stays healthy.”
Bell hopes this rise can lead to a chance in the NFL, but after fizzling out after just two NFL stints, the CFL route needs to continue on the upswing for Bell, who very well could find his way back to the NFL with another impressive season.
