Manchester City’s midfield is set for a major upgrade this summer.
The middle of the park was an area of weakness for Pep Guardiola throughout the 2024/25 campaign after the Manchester club lost Rodri to a long-term knee injury for the majority of the season.
That culminated in Man City, along with other reasons, going through the season without a trophy, and Guardiola will not want that to happen again.
Man City are close to signing AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders, with the deal expected to go through before the FIFA Club World Cup gets underway, while Rayan Cherki also looks to be closing in on a move to the Etihad Stadium.
The Manchester club do not plan to stop there, with it being reported that City are interested in another £59m-rated midfielder.

Man City could move for Atalanta’s Ederson
With the future of Ilkay Gundogan at Man City in doubt, Guardiola seems to want options next season, and therefore, the legendary coach might not only bring in Reijnders in from Italy, but also Atalanta’s Ederson.

According to Jorge Nicola, Ederson is a player Man City are monitoring ahead of the new season, as the midfielder has a contract expiring in Italy during the summer of 2027.
A deal for the Brazilian would cost around £59m (€70m), with Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Man United all interested in the 25-year-old.
Ederson is a player Atalanta will ideally not want to let go as their manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, heaped praise on the midfielder last summer, stating via Rousing the Kop: “Keeping a player like Ederson in Bergamo would mean keeping a world-class talent. We hope to succeed, even if it is always a challenge for us to keep players in such demand.”
Liverpool have already stolen Wirtz from Man City this summer, and the Manchester club will not be happy to know that the Reds are keen on signing Ederson as well.

Liverpool ready to battle Man City for Ederson
Arne Slot is keen to strengthen his Liverpool side to keep them at the top of the Premier League, and having already signed Jeremie Frimpong, while also closing in on Wirtz, the Dutch coach would also welcome the signing of Ederson.
According to GIVEMESPORT, Liverpool are ready to make a move for the Atalanta star as they look to beat Man United to the midfielder, who still need to raise money if they are to add the 25-year-old to Ruben Amorim’s squad this summer.
It is hard to see where the Brazilian would fit in at Liverpool, given the options they currently have in Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister, which could give Man City an advantage if they make a move in the coming weeks.
There seems to be a lot of moving parts in this transfer saga, and only time will tell which clubs are serious about signing Ederson ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
