As the dust settles on a surprisingly successful 2024-25 campaign, the players have begun coming down from their victory highs to reflect on winning the title and what it means to them.
The last time that Liverpool won was back in the 2019-20 season. While several of those players still remain on the books, there have been plenty more who have joined since then and are getting to experience this for the first time.
Luis Díaz joined Liverpool in 2022. So while he got to experience some of the highs of Jürgen Klopp’s last few seasons, this was his first league title.
When asked about his immediate thoughts upon winning, Díaz said, “I remembered lots of things from when I was a kid. I wanted to play for a big team, I dreamed about playing in the Premier League and playing for such an important club like Liverpool.
“And as I’ve been through many tough situations, to be here today and to have won a Premier League title means you remember many things, and I’m delighted about it. I think not many believed in us [at the beginning of the season]. We showed what we were about day in, day out, right from the start of the season.”
Díaz clocked 13 goals and five assists this season, providing the firepower needed to bring the team over the line on several occasions. He acknowledged his strong performances, but emphasized that his contribution alone would have meant nothing without the backing of his teammates.
“I feel I’m going through a really good period,” he said. “I’m really happy to be here, to be part of this great institution, this great club and to have great teammates around me,” he said.
“From the moment I arrived, I felt great pride. I always tried to work hard for this, and to see that nowadays things are working out for me fills me with pride and I’m really happy because that’s what I work for.
“[But] we are nobodies without our teammates. We are a team. The forwards and wingers always try to help with goals and assists, and right now I’ve achieved good numbers to back that up.”
There are rumours surrounding the futures of several Liverpool players, including Díaz, so it will be interesting to see if he returns next season and what his role will look like as Arne Slot continues to shape the team to his vision.
