Kobbie Mainoo is just one of many talents to come out of the Manchester United academy with the midfielder breaking through into the United team during the 2022/23 season.

This impressive display did see the youngster called up to the England national team for Euro 2024 where he became the youngest player in the national team’s history to play a semi-final in any tournament.

However, during the 2024/25 season, Mainoo has failed to hit the heights of the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons only playing 25 Premier League matches and not being able to contribute any goals and assists to the team during the campaign.

This could make news that Champions League qualifiers Chelsea are eyeing a move for the 20 year old according to the i Paper beneficial both for Mainoo himself and the club.

For starters, the England international barely featured for United during the latter stages of the season with the majority of his appearances so far this season coming in the earlier stages of the season.

Furthermore, with Kobbie Mainoo not being the typical high intensity, all action midfielder that Amorim wants in his team, this move may allow the club to open up space in the midfield for new players whilst also freeing up funds which could be used on other, more suited players.

This news comes in a time of reform within the club with United looking likely to sell many players including Alejandro Garnacho and potentially Bruno Fernandes.

News that the 20 year old was being prepared for a transfer this summer may not surprise some fans with it previously being reported that Mainoo would most likely be sold in the summer.
