Bruno Fernandes may have played his final game for Manchester United with Al-Hilal looking to wrap up a deal for the Reds' captain

Manchester hope that a potential ' sale would allow them to keep this summer, according to the latest reports.

The Reds are in a tricky spot with PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules) following a decade of poor transfer decisions meaning they will have to sell to buy this summer. , should fetch tidy sums, but selling them won't be easy.

Rashford's departure on a permanent deal will generate pure profit due to his homegrown status, but earning any profit on the huge fees paid for Sancho and Antony will be nigh on impossible - even if they have shown promise this season.

would therefore offer a huge boost. United's captain is understood to be seriously considering the offer to join Saudi Arabia's most successful club.

The Reds remain relaxed over the situation. After a season of gross underperformance across Ruben Amorim's squad, The Manchester Evening News understands that an offer for any player will be considered. That includes talented midfielder Mainoo, who has struggled to nail down a place in Amorim's starting line-up.

However, *The iPaper*report that Fernandes' potential departure would offer some PSR respite when it comes to Mainoo's future at M16. It is said that co-owners Ineos are aware that allowing both stars, who are among the club's most popular players, to leave would cause fury among United's fanbase.

But the Reds would have their priorities wrong if they think selling their best player for an as yet unproven talent is a price worth paying. Mainoo enjoyed a brilliant debut season in the United first team under Erik ten Hag - scoring in the FA Cup final win over Manchester City.

And yet Amorim is said to not be totally convinced by the 20-year-old midfielder. It is understood that the England international is valued at £70m by the Reds.

In an ideal world, neither player would be sold this summer. Both still have a lot to give United - even if Fernandes is approaching his 31st birthday.

If the choice is between them, though, and the difficult decision needs to be made, there should only be one clear winner. Mainoo's homegrown status would also offer a PSR boost, which United so badly need, and that's the sad reality of Manchester United in 2025.
