The Philadelphia Eagles finally made the offseason move fans have been begging for by [trading Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers](https://section215.com/eagles-finally-kick-failed-signing-to-the-curb-in-huge-trade-01jwh4z4yvqe) (or at least, agreeing to do so on June 1). Whatever comes of the "mid-round pick" return for Huff won't make an impact for the rest of this offseason, but that doesn't mean the deal won't have immediate implications in Philly.
While Huff was already expected to be little more than a backup this year, having the move all but official means it's time to turn our attention to the Eagles' next offseason move. And that next priority is obvious: helping replace what Huff _should_ have been able to offer to this defense.
Eagles Need to Use Bryce Huff's Roster Spot to Reinforce Pass-Rush
------------------------------------------------------------------
Trading Huff doesn't actually hurt the Eagles' pass-rush — he was never going to help that unit in 2025 anyway — but that doesn't mean the group doesn't need help. The next move must be bringing in more help in that area, especially when considering how good the remaining free agent options are. Let's look quickly at the "why" before getting into the "who"
The Eagles have had only eight players record at least 5.0 sacks over the last three seasons combined. Only two of them (Jalen Carter with 10.5 and Nolan Smith Jr. with 7.5) are still in Philly. The top five are all gone.
[Jalyx Hunt may be a breakout candidate](https://section215.com/rising-eagle-already-making-fans-forget-bryce-huff-ota-absences-01jwh0z6nm3h) with a ton of potential, but starting Hunt and Smith with very little depth on the edge behind them can't be the only plan for a team hoping to win the Super Bowl. And on the interior, Moro Ojomo will hopefully help ease the loss of Milton Williams, but that is again a pretty shaky plan-A.
So Who Can the Eagles Add?
--------------------------
Luckily for Philly, there are a lot of viable options still out there, especially on the edge.
### Edge Rushers:
* Matthew Judon
* Za'Darius Smith
* Jadeveon Clowney
* Von Miller
* Shaq Barrett
### Interior Rushers:
* Taven Bryan
* Neville Gallimore
* Quinton Jefferson
* DeShawn Williams
* Austin Johnson
Judon and Smith are probably hoping to ink significant contracts, and they will have plenty of suitors (especially among contending teams) as training camp approaches, but it's hard not to be excited about the prospect of adding either. As situational edge-rushers (not to mention veteran mentors for Hunt and Smith), their potential impact could be huge.
But even if the Eagles don't plan on landing someone quite so splashy, the point remains: the next appropriate next move after getting rid of Bryce Huff is to fix the pass-rush by bringing in a free agent to make up for the void that his failure in Philly has left behind.
