Kentucky point guard Lamont Butler, who was a late add to the 2025 NBA G League Elite Camp in Chicago, battled through a lingering shoulder injury that cost him seven games and kept him at less than full strength for much of the season.

Despite that, Butler still averaged 11.4 points 2.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.6 steals for the Wildcats while starting in all 27 games in which he appeared.

In his fifth collegiate season after spending four years at San Diego State, Butler set career-highs for points, assists, and blocks per game in addition to field goal percentage and 3-point percentage.

In a 93-85 win over archrival Louisville at Rupp Arena, Butler went a perfect 10 of 10 from the field, including 6 of 6 from 3-point range, and scored a career-best 33 points to go along with six assists. His 33 points were the most by a Wildcat in a Kentucky win over Louisville since the rivalry resumed in 1983.

He also finished with 19 points, eight assists and three steals in a home win over No. 6 and eventual national champion Florida. After going scoreless in Kentucky's first round NCAA Tournament win over Troy, Butler tallied 14 points, five assists and three steals in a second round win over Illinois and 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists in Kentucky's loss to Tennessee as the Wildcats reached the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2019.

The San Diego State transfer, who helped lead the Aztecs to its first-ever NCAA title game in 2023, was ranked as the No. 44 overall transfer in the portal and No. 11 point guard by 247Sports last offseason. In a final re-rank of the transfer portal, Butler was ranked No. 19 overall.

Kentucky finished the season 20-7 with Butler in the lineup and just 4-5 without him in the lineup.
