‘I’m told’: Luke Edwards shares exciting transfer news he’s now anticipating at Newcastle

Newcastle United look ready to spend again this summer.

Unlike in 2024, there is hope that Newcastle United can start bringing in players once more.

The Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) meant that club owners PIF could not strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad without punishment last season.

Indeed, Newcastle risked a ten-point deduction from the Premier League if they spent too much and duly kept their powder dry as a result.

Now, however, things are different. Newcastle are in a healthy PSR position and have a Champions League campaign for which to prepare.

Newcastle could spend £150million this summer and recent claims from Luke Edwards are exciting.

PIF planning two big name signings at Newcastle United this summer

The Daily Telegraph journalist took to social media platform X on Saturday.

In an update provided for Newcastle fans, Edwards revealed that he was anticipating the Newcastle United owners to make two signings this summer who immediately improve the first-team.

The club are said to “know” who their top targets are, with a “couple” of younger project players tipped to arrive on top of that.

What happens after that is said to depend on the sales Newcastle can make.

I’m told there are lots of moving parts – as ever – with #nufc transfer plans but they know who their top targets are. I anticipate two big signings, players who immediately raise the standard of the first team and then a couple of young prospects on top of that.

Much will then…

Newcastle moving for Marc Guehi and Bryan Mbeumo

While it remains to be seen what happens with either, Newcastle are keen to sign both Marc Guehi and Bryan Mbeumo this summer.

Newcastle remain interested in signing Guehi, who was also pursued last summer before a deal broke down.

Furthermore, Newcastle have held positive talks to sign Mbeumo, who is also reportedly attracting interest from Manchester United.

Clearly, there’s no absolute guarantee Newcastle will sign either player but the fact they are going so big on two Premier League-proven stars does at least offer a slight statement of intent heading into what needs to be a huge summer transfer window for the club.

Howe performed miracles this season after not having his squad strengthened last summer. He can’t reasonably be expected to do so again.
