Sometimes, the world really does feel small. Mark van Bommel played for Bayern Munich during the latter end of the 2000’s decade, rather catching the eye for his aggression in midfield. Nearly two decades later, his coaching career has started, taking him from Australia to the Netherlands and even back to Germany. While in the Netherlands, however, the former Dutch international coached PSV, with a certain Cody Gakpo still looking to make his name.
Cody Gakpo has since moved on from PSV, joined Liverpool and has been linked to Bayern recently. Naturally, van Bommel was not a bad person to ask about the rumors and the former Bayern captain certainly did not shoot down the idea: “Cody is doing very well for Liverpool and also for our national team. He’s a very fast winger who has individual brilliance. What’s special is that he’s also a very good finisher. He’s a real goal threat. Cody is also Dutch – and Dutch players have always done well at Bayern. But I’m not on Bayern’s scouting team.”
Perhaps the club needs another Dutch winger again. The last one wasn’t that bad, was he?
