W League Recap-IND 2:3 KHC

Westfield – Indy Eleven battled back twice but fell 3-2 to Kings Hammer FC Cincinnati on Saturday night at Grand Park Events Center.

After falling behind 1-0, the Girls in Blue got the offense going in the 15th minute when forward Maddy Osswald created a scoring chance, centering to midfielder Asa Yamazaki, who fed forward Katie (Soderstrom) Bulger for a shot from outside the area that hit the left post.

Two minutes later, Indy Eleven executed a series of three passes from Osswald to Yamazaki to captain Grace Bahr, who fed forward Addie Chester for a shot inside the area that was saved.

In the 23rd, the Girls in Blue earned another quality chance with Chester starting it to Osswald who set up Yamazaki for a shot that was saved. The rebound went to Bulger, who lifted it over the keeper, but just over the crossbar.

After Kings Hammer took a 2-0 lead, Indy Eleven created a sequence in the 31st of two shots that hit the crossbar in less than a minute. Chester made a steal and then set up Osswald, whose shot struck the frame. Chester got the rebound and fired another shot that hit the bar.

The Girls in Blue broke through in the 39th minute when Chester delivered a cross that Yamazaki headed home for her first goal of the season to bring her team within 2-1.

Chester almost tied it from just inside the area a minute later, but goalkeeper Maria Galley made a diving save to preserve her team’s lead.

In the second half, Bulger fired a shot from long range in the 52nd that struck the crossbar above the top right corner.

After Kings Hammer scored to take a 3-1 lead in the 86th minute, Indy Eleven responded quickly with midfielder Olivia Joyce delivering a long shot from outside the area to score her first goal off an assist from Bahr to bring her team to within 3-2.

The Girls in Blue offense generated 16 shots with seven on target, three hitting the crossbar, and one off the goal post.

Indy Eleven goalkeeper Emily Edwards made a season-high six saves.
