Cherries squad assessed as transfer window opens - briefly

This season, the summer window is split in two, with a short window now until June 10 due to the Club World Cup, before it reopens on June 16 and then finally closes on September 1.

Two [Cherries](http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/cherries/clubnews/) players have already left the club this summer – Dean Huijsen and Jaidon Anthony.

The former joins Real Madrid after the Spanish giants agreed to trigger his £50million release clause, while the latter moves to the Clarets on a permanent deal after their promotion triggered an obligation to buy clause.

But what will the Cherries be looking to do this summer, and how does the squad look?

Starting at the back, the Cherries will be in the market for a goalkeeper, with the departure of Kepa at the end of his season-long loan.

_(Image: Richard Crease)_ They may be hopeful of bringing the Spaniard in on a permanent move, with the Athletic reporting that he has a £5million release clause, but after a good season with Bournemouth he may look to explore his options.

Neto, Alex Paulsen and Mark Travers are set to return to Dorset from their respective loan deals.

Former club captain Neto may move on from the club this summer aged 35 having spent the season at Arsenal.

A decision may come for Travers – the Irish keeper keen to play every week but restricted to five appearances in the Premier League this season before he went on loan to Middlesbrough.

Paulsen spent the season in Aukland, where he won the league with another club in Bill Foley’s group.

Another loan will likely be in store for the Kiwi stopper, with fellow Black Knight FC club Hibernian in Scotland linked.

_(Image: Richard Crease)_ In defence, Milos Kerkez was excellent this season and started every one of the 38 games, but, after Huijsen, the young left back has also been linked with moves elsewhere.

If he does move on, another left back will be on the shopping list as well as another centre back.

The centre back pairing of Illia Zabarnyi and Marcos Senesi is a strong duo but some more depth will be needed, with James Hill able to cover the middle and the right of defence.

Julio Soler is an excellent prospect but may need to improve on his physicality before he becomes a Premier League regular on the left, and there will need to be another left back either to start or to provide cover.

Lewis Cook was needed at times to fill in at right back this season, with Adam Smith, Julian Araujo and Hill all ruled out – but three players, plus Cook and the returning Max Aarons, should be enough cover for right back.

_(Image: Peter Byrne/PA Wire)_ Into midfield, Bournemouth have some good options in Cook, Ryan Christie and Tyler Adams, with Alex Scott able to play deeper or in the number ten role.

Marcus Tavernier also filled in in the final game of the season and impressed, so, provided there are no departures, centre midfield will not be a priority for the summer.

Joe Rothwell, Romain Faivre and Junior Traore are all set to return from their loan spells but after two seasons away, all three may look for another loan or a permanent deal away from Dean Court.

Philip Billing played a bit part in the first half of the season at the Cherries before joining Napoli on loan in January, helping them to the title in Italy, and will return this summer – but may look for a move if he is not guaranteed more game time on the south coast.

Further forward, building depth will be the key over the summer.

_(Image: Adam Davy/PA Wire)_ Luis Sinisterra has missed the majority of this season through injury, while Enes Unal will be continuing his recovery from an ACL injury through the summer.

With Tavernier, David Brooks and Justin Kluivert, Iraola has options in the number 10 role with the three all able to operate out wide, too.

Dango Ouattara is a useful option to have, having demonstrated his ability to play a range of positions well this season – and he has improved massively this season.

Antoine Semenyo, too, can play on the left or right, but some extra cover for Evanilson at striker would be good, although Eli Junior Kroupi arrives after a prolific season in Ligue 2 with Lorient.

Daniel Jebbison has also played a role in the second half of the season, and he may benefit from another loan to the Championship, although he will hope for a more productive spell than his move to Watford.

Something the Cherries perhaps lacked this season was an attacking midfielder with a top-class passing range to pick out the runs made by the Brazilian striker.

_(Image: Richard Crease)_ He makes a number of brilliant, incisive runs at the defence and the side could benefit from a player able to pick him out more regularly.

An example of this was in his goal at Fulham, where he was found by an excellent Hill pass up from the back.

With £50m in the bank already, the Cherries will have some spending power this summer.

Rumours may fly around a number of their first team players who impressed so much this season, but I don’t think more than three will leave.

Owner Bill Foley has been clear in saying they can match anyone on wages, and the ambition of Foley as an owner and the club as a whole will attract players and perhaps encourage others to stay.

The opening of the new performance centre will no doubt be a draw, too as a world-class facility.

Either way, it is set to be an interesting summer for the club.
