The England under-20 coach has tipped Man Utd to sign a top Premier League footballer
Former Aston Villa and West Brom goalkeeper Neil Culter has claimed that Emiliano Martinez would relish the challenge of leaving the West Midlands to join Manchester United this summer.
United are believed to be searching for a new first choice goalkeeper to take the team forward after a calamitous campaign which saw the club finish in 15th position while failing to win any form of silverware.
Former Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana has come under the spotlight for a series of errors throughout the campaign while Altay Bayindir has been far from convincing in his four league appearances this term.
The Red Devils have been linked with a series of names such as Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia amid rival interest from Newcastle United while there’s also been talk of a potential move for Southampton shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale despite his team’s relegation to the Championship.
However, Martinez’s credentials would likely make him the team’s first choice if he was to become available on the market this summer.
Could Emiliano Martinez leave Aston Villa this summer?
Argentine international and 2022 World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez has been heavily linked with a move away from Aston Villa due to the club’s reported PSR issues which are likely to lead to them selling at least one big name first team player.
The 32-year-old, who has enjoyed five impressive years between the posts, was seen in tears at the end of Aston Villa’s penultimate match of the season when they ran out 2-0 winners over Tottenham Hotspur.
It marked the last home game of the campaign and potentially Martinez’s’ last match in front of the Villa Park faithful.
It signalled that he could be considering his future at the club amid reports of interest from Saudi Arabia though it’s also understood that United are interested in the signature of the two-time Yashin Trophy winner.
Emery was asked outright after Villa's defeat to United on the final day of the season if Martinez had played his final game for the club and he replied: "No way."
But it’s done nothing to squash the rumours of a potential departure for the Argentine.
Neil Cutler tips Emiliano Martinez for Man Utd move
Neil Cutler, who coached Emiliano Martinez at Aston Villa between 2020 and 2022 feels the Argentine is not ready to leave European football just yet with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon and claims the 32-year-old has the confidence to affect United in the right way due to his strong character if he was to make that move.
Martinez labelled Cutler ‘the best English coach’ he had worked with at the time of his Villa departure and is believed to be on good terms with the current England Under-20 goalkeeper coach.
Cutler told Sun Sport: "This summer is pivotal for Emi in terms of his career. He's been voted the best goalie in the world twice and there seems to be an opportunity for him this summer, with all of his options open.
"Big clubs are queuing up to speak to him and he either stays at a massive club like Villa or he goes to a truly world-class club. I don't think it's about money with Emi so I don't think he is ready to move to Saudi yet.
"If he does move it would be to a much bigger club — one of the really big-hitters like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico... or even Manchester United. United can't offer him Champions League football but the sheer size of the club and the size of the challenge might appeal to Emi.
"Emi has the confidence required to play for a massive club like United and would feel he could affect the club in a really positive way. He would look at United and say: 'Right, I can make this place better. I can help this club get back to where it was'."
