The summer transfer window is officially open, and Aston Villa have a busy few months ahead.

Due to the Club World Cup, the window has opened early — running until Tuesday, June 10 — allowing for an exceptional registration period.

All Premier League and EFL clubs can do business during this early window, not just Chelsea and Manchester City, who are participating in the Club World Cup.

The 2025 summer transfer window will then open again on Monday, June 16, and run until deadline day on Monday, September 1.

Villa have all but completed their first summer signing, as Feyenoord forward Zépiqueno Redmond is due to join on a free transfer.

The 18-year-old striker will become a Villa player at the start of July after Monchi won the race for his signature ahead of several other clubs.

Villa will also welcome young centre-back Yasin Özcan to the squad this summer, while Norwegian midfielder Sverre Nypan is another player the club would like to recruit.

A priority for Villa this month will be to raise funds through player sales before the June 30 accounting deadline.

Last summer, Villa sold Douglas Luiz, Tim Iroegbunam, and Omari Kellyman for a combined £70 million, followed by Moussa Diaby’s £50.5 million move to Al-Ittihad.

In the winter window, the sales of Jhon Durán, Diego Carlos, and Jaden Philogene brought in an additional £100 million.

Villa’s wage-to-revenue ratio will decrease following their lucrative Champions League campaign. However, after failing to finish in the top five this season, Monchi must reduce the wage bill, as the Europa League does not offer the same financial rewards.

In 2023/24, Villa’s wage-to-revenue ratio stood at a staggering 91 percent — well above UEFA’s 70 percent cap.

Villa must comply with both the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and UEFA’s Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) regulations.

Simply put: transfer fees help satisfy PSR, while reducing the wage bill helps meet SCR requirements.

That’s why Emi Martínez could be on the move in the coming weeks, with interest from Atlético Madrid and other clubs.

Barcelona, meanwhile, appear to have made progress in their efforts to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García, despite Villa's interest.

Martínez was visibly emotional during Villa’s final home match of the season against Tottenham, and was sent off in the defeat to Manchester United on the final day.

García, who Monchi has scouted this season, is reportedly closing in on a move to Barcelona following significant progress in talks over the past 24 hours.

He has a €25 million release clause — excellent value for a 24-year-old goalkeeper of his ability.

Liverpool’s Caoimhín Kelleher is being pursued by Brentford, while Lille's Lucas Chevalier is also said to be a Villa target.

It’s worth noting that Villa could be in the market for two goalkeepers this summer, with Robin Olsen having joined Malmö following the expiration of his contract at Villa Park.

At right-back, Matty Cash is one of several players whose contracts expire in two years. He attracted interest from AC Milan last summer before they signed former Tottenham defender Emerson.

Villa also have a list of potential centre-backs to replace Axel Disasi, who spent the second half of the season on loan from Chelsea.

Among the targets is Cristhian Mosquera, though it appears he is heading to RB Leipzig. Osasuna’s Enzo Boyomo is another defender admired by Villa.

At left-back, Villa could be seeking a replacement for Lucas Digne, who has admitted uncertainty about his future this summer.

Digne has one year remaining on his contract and is among the club’s highest earners.

Boubacar Kamara has been in talks over a new deal since early April, when he was first offered fresh terms.

Villa are also expected to begin discussions over a new contract for Youri Tielemans, the club’s Player of the Season.

Amadou Onana, meanwhile, is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, according to Al-Riyadh, though it remains unclear whether that will lead to a formal bid.

Villa signed Onana for £50 million last summer, and the 23-year-old settled quickly after his move from Everton.

Marcus Rashford has held talks with Barcelona and hopes to secure a move to Catalonia, while Marco Asensio is said to be open to returning to Villa permanently.

Villa do not have a purchase option for the Spaniard, but Paris Saint-Germain are willing to sell him for a reasonable fee, with just one year left on his contract.

Morgan Rogers

Elsewhere in attacking midfield, Morgan Rogers is drawing interest from Chelsea, but Villa are reluctant to sell the 22-year-old.

With Chelsea having secured Champions League qualification at Villa’s expense, they could test Villa’s resolve before the end of the month.

Jacob Ramsey is another Villa star attracting Premier League interest, with Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United all keen.

Like Cash, Ramsey’s contract runs until 2027. Leon Bailey — also with two years left — is expected to leave this summer.

Emi Buendía, Álex Moreno, and Kaine Kesler-Hayden will all be allowed to leave permanently, though finding a buyer for Leander Dendoncker may prove difficult.

Philippe Coutinho, meanwhile, could agree to a contract termination with Villa, according to Grupo Globo, who report that Vasco da Gama are working on another loan deal if Coutinho remains under contract for his final year.

Kosta Nedeljković is expected to join RB Leipzig permanently in a deal worth around £12 million, while Louie Barry, Lewis Dobbin, and Samuel Iling-Junior may return to the Championship on loan.

Enzo Barrenechea, however, is wanted by several clubs, though Unai Emery is likely to assess the Argentine during pre-season following his impressive loan spell at Valencia.
