The last player Birmingham City signed from Aston Villa as Louie Barry transfer now mooted

Aston Villa forward Louie Barry is thought to be of interest to Birmingham City going into the summer transfer window.

The window is now officially open, and Birmingham City are set for an ‘aggressive’ summer.

Birmingham are offering at least £30k-a-week to new signings and had one deal made official before the window even opened, with Phil Neumann signed to a pre-contract.

The Blues expect to be in the Premier League in 12 months and are going to be signing plenty of players in the coming months.

We have previously shared that Birmingham want to strengthen five areas of their squad, with a new forward on their list.

Birmingham City have discussed Louie Barry transfer

One attacker the club have at least taken a look at recently is Aston Villa ace, Louie Barry.

The 21-year-old had a prolific first half of the season in League One with Stockport County, where he scored 15 and assisted three in 21 league matches.

He was then recalled by Villa in the January transfer window and spent the second half of 2024/25 fighting Championship relegation with Hull City.

The Tigers, whom Barry only played four games for before suffering an injury, are thought to be keen on bringing him back to their club.

However, a report from Give Me Sport this week has said that ‘Barry’s name has been mentioned internally at Birmingham City‘.

Last player Birmingham City signed from Aston Villa

The two clubs are long-time rivals, and Tom Wagner has discussed Birmingham facing Aston Villa once more when his club win promotion.

As is to be expected given the feisty nature of the Second City derby, the two teams haven’t done that much business over the years.

But the last player Birmingham signed from Aston Villa was Scott Hogan in 2020.

Hogan arrived permanently on September 16, 2020, for somewhere around the £2m mark after an initial six-month loan deal earlier in the year.

In total, he featured 158 times, scoring 36 goals and assisting six in all competitions for the Blues before leaving on a free in 2024.

Now 33, Hogan is on the books of MK Dons, for whom he scored eight goals in League Two during the most recent campaign.
