Newcastle United have identified West Ham star Mohammed Kudus as a key target if they miss out on a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have said about Newcastle’s plans.
Kudus, 24, has emerged as a target for a number of Premier League clubs this summer and could be allowed to leave West Ham for below his release clause.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 31 May that Newcastle could sign Kudus at a discounted price should they make a move this summer.
The Ghana international feels he still has a lot to offer on the European stage and would welcome the opportunity to play for the Magpies in the Champions League.

However, Football Insider revealed on 30 May that Newcastle have the edge over Man United as they can offer Mbeumo Champions League football.
O’Rourke explained that should they miss out on the Cameroon international, Kudus will rise up their list of targets and would be interested in the move.
“*Newcastle can afford a deal for Kudus,*” he told Football Insider.
“As it stands, Bryan Mbeumo is their top target for that right-sided forward position.
“Kudus is on their list and has admirers within the Newcastle hierarchy, and is somebody they feel could come in and strengthen their attacking options.
“He obviously has that release clause of around £75million, but I don’t think many Premier League clubs will be willing to pay that.
“Due to West Ham’s situation, his suitors feel they can get him for a cheaper fee.
“They’ll definitely be willing to listen to offers for the Ghana international.
“If Newcastle were to miss out on Mbeumo to Man United or somebody else, it would push Kudus further up their list of targets for the right-winger role.
“Kudus still feels he has a lot to offer on the European scene, he’s still only 24.
“If Newcastle come calling with Champions League football, it’s something he would be open to.”

Eddie Howe eyes Joao Pedro deal after Brighton exit news
Kudus is not the only forward being linked with a move to St James’ Park this summer, as Brighton star Joao Pedro is also on their radar.
Brown told Football Insider on 31 May that Newcastle want to sign Pedro as Eddie Howe is keen to improve his attacking options and depth.
The imminent departure of Callum Wilson will force the Magpies to find a new backup for Alexander Isak, while Howe is also considering starting Isak and Pedro together.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Pedro is interested in leaving Brighton to take the step up to a bigger club amid interest from Chelsea.
