[Newcastle United](https://cominghomenewcastle.sbnation.com) are progressing with behind-the-scenes work on plans for a new stadium at Leazes Park, with executives just trying to avoid premature announcements before all logistical hurdles are cleared.
[Daily Mail’s Craig Hope](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-14739255/Newcastle-Isak-stadium-transfers-Delap.html) reports that a 65,000-seat venue remains the preferred outcome. Hope first revealed in March that the club had presented ownership with a video proposal for a new ground on the Leazes Park site. Rather than rush to unveil those plans publicly, club officials have opted to secure necessary approvals at local and national government levels before making a formal statement.
One key aspect remains the lease agreement concerning Leazes Park. Hope notes the stadium would stand 35 metres above the current St James’ Stack to preserve its iconic visibility across the city, a design detail deemed essential to maintain the visual identity of SJP.
Newcastle also want to ensure the atmosphere of the new ground matches or improves on what St James’ Park offers. The club has been working this season with a company that specializes in monitoring stadium acoustics, learning from other projects such as West Ham’s London Stadium, where fan noise has struggled to translate into the bowl-like structure.
Construction firm Laing O’Rourke is among those the club has engaged in early discussions regarding the potential project.
A final announcement on the clubs decision on the stadium and the plans to follow should be expected at some point in the next few weeks and most definitely before the start of next season.
