Liverpool fans might have got a sneak preview of what is to come at Anfield next season on the penultimate day of the Bundesliga season, when Borussia Dortmund won 4-2 against Bayer Leverkusen.
Though their side was beaten on the day, Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz linked up very nicely down the right, combining for the former to score in what was Xabi Alonso's final home game. And the pair could replicate such a link-up next season if the Liverpool transfer plan comes together in the next few days.
Frimpong was confirmed as a new Liverpool player on Friday, arriving as a $39 million (£30 million) addition after his release clause was triggered. Talks are underway, meanwhile, over a deal for Wirtz, the Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder who scored 16 goals and assisted another 15 in the season just gone.
Against Borussia Dortmund, Frimpong played a one-two with Wirtz inside the penalty area and then fired into the top corner. Both players showed good footwork and composure in tight spots to carve out the chance.
On Reddit, Liverpool fans spotted the footage and began to get excited. "Add Salah to the mix on that side... nightmare for defenders," one commented.
Frimpong can play further forward as well as at right-back and Liverpool already has Conor Bradley to play that role now Trent Alexander-Arnold has departed. But if Wirtz arrives, he is likely to be a central cog around which Arne Slot could build his team.
Wirtz, a German international, can play as a number 10, though he could also be deployed as a false nine. Slot is likely to want to find a way of putting him in the Liverpool starting XI without taking out the pressing machine that is Dominik Szoboszlai.

"I think we can find one or two extra weapons this team doesn’t have," Slot said a couple of weeks ago when he was asked about what he was looking for in the summer window.
"Maybe, maybe, by using the transfer market. That is what we are trying to achieve. That will make us only stronger.
"That is what we need because we saw [Manchester] City spending £200m in the [January] transfer window. All of them will. And apart from the transfer window, we can also improve certain aspects ourselves."
"City will probably strengthen the squad again. If the rumours are correct, Arsenal is planning the same, so it would be stupid if we are not looking at trying to strengthen the squad as well," Slot later told the BBC.

"Again, I've said it many times, it's not that easy because this team has already won the Premier League.
"So to find players that can strengthen us — that might not be that difficult — because there are certain players in the world where I think, 'If they would come, it would be very nice'.
"But they're also playing at clubs where they don't want to leave. So there are not many that can strengthen us, but the few that are out there, we will try to get them. At this moment of time, we are not sure if that's possible."
