Manchester United could sign Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres if they sell Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho during the summer. Football journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that United like Gyokeres, but any potential deal relies on the club raising funds quickly.
The Red Devils are facing a serious financial pressure after years of poor management, involving numerous failed big-money transfer signings. United bought many players for a high transfer fee and big contracts, but the majority of those players failed consistently.
When it comes to the attacking department, Man United recently signed Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee under Erik ten Hag. Both players have failed to establish themselves as regular starter and consistent goal provider under the new manager, Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United need to sell both Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho to sign Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres
Amorim used Gyokeres as his preferred number nine during his impressive tenure at Sporting CP, enjoying great success in Portugal. The Sweden international understands the tactical demands of the Portuguese boss, something Hojlund and Zirkzee have failed to deliver consistently.
Speaking on The Done Deal Show, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that United can sign Gyokeres from Sporting if they sell Fernandes and Garnacho during the summer window. He said:
“Manchester United like Gyokeres, but they have to be able to afford the fee and the wage for Gyokeres, and they may only be able to do that with the sale of Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho rather than just only one of them.”
Al Hilal want Fernandes and are willing to pay £100m, while Man United have set a £50m valuation for Garnacho. The Red Devils have to sacrifice some of their high-value players if they want to sign marquee players like Gyokeres.
There is no denying that Gyokeres is well-adjusted to Amorim’s demand and has an incredible goalscoring record with Sporting CP. The 26-year-old forward has made 102 appearances for Sporting CP in all competitions, scoring 97 goals and providing 28 assists.

However, a jump from Liga Portugal to the Premier League has a slight risk, as United are well aware. Both Hojlund and Zirkzee arrived from abroad and failed to adjust to the physical demands of the English league. As things stand, United have big decisions to make during the summer, and they need to get every transfer right.
