“It’s the Premier League” – Pundit Predicts Estevao Might Take Time to Enter Chelsea Starting Lineup

Chelsea supporters have been warned to keep their expectations low regarding Estevao Willian’s instant impact. Pundit Jason Cundy has called on them to be patient as the Brazilian youngster adapts to the Premier League.

The 18-year-old is set to join the Blues this summer to play for the team in the FIFA Club World Cup, having completed his time with Palmeiras. Chelsea signed him in June 2024 for a foundation fee of €34 million, with add-ons taking the fee to about €57 million.

Much should not be anticipated, though, as Cundy cautioned that Estevao may not be a part of the starting eleven immediately. Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT, he explained:

“It’s the Premier League. It is a different league. It’s demanding in other ways that other leagues aren’t. He (Estevao) might take a bit of time to get that starting berth.

“Eventually, and I’ve seen the same clips as you, if he does develop physically and [grows] into the young man we hope and think he will, I think there will be a time when he’s an absolute must. First game of [next] season, not convinced yet.”

Estevao’s record of 26 goals and 15 assists in 77 first-team appearances at Palmeiras is a sign of his potential. He has four caps for the Brazilian senior national team as well.

Chelsea Bolster Squad With Fresh Young Signings Ahead of 2025/26 season

Chelsea have been busy ahead of the summer transfer window, acquiring young players to stabilise the team ahead of the new season. The latest unofficial signing so far is striker Liam Delap, who will join from Ipswich Town after the Blues activated his £30 million release clause.

The Blues have also signed Sporting CP defensive midfielder Dario Essugo to midfield on an £18.5 million deal. The 20-year-old enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Las Palmas and will bring depth into Enzo Maresca’s midfield.

Finally, Chelsea completed the signing of winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP on a £44 million deal. However, the 17-year-old will spend this season in Portugal. The club also brought back a batch of loan players, including goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, who will fight for a spot in the first team.
