Danns joined Sunderland on a season-long loan deal on deadline day in February, but his medical at the Academy of Light revealed an issue with his back.
The forward returned to Liverpool for treatment amid hopes he would be able to return to Wearside at some stage in the second half of the season. However, with Liverpool’s medical staff recommending a lengthy period of rest and recuperation, he failed to make a single Sunderland appearance as Regis Le Bris’ side won promotion via the Championship play-offs.
Danns made a number of trips across the Pennines to watch Sunderland in action though, and also held one-to-one chats with Le Bris as the extent of his injury issues became clear.
Those discussions have helped form a strong relationship, with the Liverpool hierarchy also known to have been impressed with the way in which Sunderland handled a delicate situation that had the potential to become difficult for all those involved.

That mutual respect could play into the [Black Cats](http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/sunderland)’ hands later this summer if Liverpool decide to send Danns back out on loan.
As things stand, the plan is that the 19-year-old will be involved in Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia, which is due to begin with a game against AC Milan in Hong Kong in late July. Arne Slot wants the opportunity to see a number of his young players in action before deciding on the make-up of his squad for next season.
There is a good chance Danns could be deemed surplus to requirements, in which case Liverpool would look to set up a loan deal. Clubs in the Championship would no doubt be interested, but Sunderland would offer the opportunity for Danns to play in the Premier League on a season-long loan basis.
The teenager lacks experience, having made just ten senior appearances for Liverpool, but he was part of the side that won the 2024 Carabao Cup final at Wembley and has also scored senior goals in the FA Cup and played in the Champions League.
While Sunderland would not envisage him leading the line on a regular basis next season, he would potentially be a valuable addition to their attacking line-up.
Eliezer Mayenda and Wilson Isidor will battle for a starting spot in Le Bris’ first-choice side, but Danns would potentially provide some welcome cover and competition for the duo.
Signing him on a loan basis would be a relatively cheap way of bolstering the Black Cats attack, freeing up funds for investment in other areas of the team.
