Luis Diaz emerges as'top transfer priority'after Cristiano Ronaldo decision

Liverpool winger Luis Diaz is a 'top priority' for the Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr this summer. Barcelona is also thought to hold a long-term interest in the 28-year-old, but would be less likely to have the financial means to do a deal.

Al Nassr, according to Santi Aouna, is set to tie down Cristiano Ronaldo to a contract extension. It is still looking to have a big summer, though, with Diaz one option to come in.

The Reds ace could link up with fellow Colombian Jhon Duran at Al Nassr if he makes the move. Duran left Aston Villa for the Middle East in January.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Al Nassr is plotting some big moves in the market. Diaz is one target but there are others being lined up too as the Saudi top flight continues to grow.

It had been thought that Ronaldo could join Al Hilal, where he would then take part in the upcoming Club World Cup. But that move doesn't appear to be happening and he could instead pen new terms at his current club.

Diaz scored 17 goals in all competitions for Liverpool in the season just gone, often playing down the middle for Arne Slot. Only Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah netted more often.

However, at the age of 28 and with two years left on his contract, cashing in on Diaz could be appealing depending on the transfer fee on offer. Liverpool could potentially reinvest in a younger player.

"And so comes to an end another season at this incredible club," Diaz posted on Instagram this week. "And what a season it was! The long-awaited league title has returned to Anfield.

"The Premier League is ours, and it feels amazing to know that no one doubts we were the best and, because of that, truly deserved it. We were a real team, a strong group, a family — always backed by extraordinary supporters.

"My thanks go to everyone: teammates, coaching staff, club staff and supporters. It was an unforgettable season, one I will always carry in my heart!"

Liverpool.com says: There is an argument for moving Diaz on this summer for the right fee, but that would suddenly look like a lot of work being done at once in attack. Liverpool is also likely to lose Darwin Nunez and there are question marks hanging over Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa.

Last summer, the Reds seriously considered Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United when the Magpies needed to sell players to be PSR compliant. Diaz and Gakpo both arguably had better seasons than the England international, however.
