Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben reacts as PSG win the Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League for the first time in their history on Saturday night and Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben was full of praise.

Like Newcastle United, PSG ended a trophy hoodoo this season. Granted, the French giants are swimming in silverware, but the Champions League is the one prize to have evaded them, even during the Qatari-ownership era.

It feels a very long time ago now but Newcastle thrashed PSG 4-1 in the Champions League back in October 2023.

There hasn’t been a huge amount of change in personnel amongst Luis Enrique’s side since then save for the high-profile exit of Kylian Mbappe, but they now appear to be playing on a different level entirely.

The French champions ran riot over Inter Milan, amassing the highest margin of victory ever recorded in a Champions League final in their 5-0 win in Munich.

It’s fair to say Reuben was impressed.

Jamie Reuben congratulates “deserved” winners PSG for lifting the Champions League

Reuben, an active presence on social media, took to the platform X (formerly Twitter) after watching such an emphatic victory.

The 38-year-old hailed PSG as “deserved” winners and it’s certainly difficult to disagree. They were absolutely excellent in the knockout stage and the scale of their victory will no doubt send shockwaves around European football.

With Newcastle having qualified for next season’s competition, there’s a very real chance they could meet PSG once more. While difficult to imagine the Toon recording another 4-1 win, testing yourself against the very best teams on the planet is what playing on such a stage is all about.
