Arsenal may have the chance to sign a winger who knows what it takes to win titles.

Arsenal are heading into a huge summer as they look to take the step up from contenders to winners, something they have failed to do in recent years. The Gunners disappointed in the season just gone, falling far short of Liverpool in to spot, and the pressure will be on for Mikel Arteta next term.

The Arsenal board continue to invest big sums of money in this squad, and if Arteta can’t deliver titles, they may end up looking elsewhere for someone who can get them over the line. Such a decision is awaits a long way down the line, though, and Arteta will be backed firmly this summer, with sporting director Andrea Berta now leading the charge.

A number of positions need strengthening, and one of them is the winger position. Bukayo Saka may be an obvious first choice, but the lack of competition out wide saw Gabriel Martinelli suffer last season, with the Brazilian struggling for form in the first half of the season. Arsenal do have Leandro Trossard, but he is some way behind Saka and Martinelli, and that lack of clear competition is a problem for a side that wants to win a title.

Arsenal need to sign another wide player, and given their need to sign a striker and other positions means they could do with saving a buck or two. Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané has been linked, with he former Manchester City attacker out of contract this summer.

Providing an update on the situation, Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport: “Leroy Sane is currently in talks with Bayern over potentially extending his contract. Suitors are alert to the opportunity, but also aware there is a chance Sane simply stays. Sane has been offered about to various clubs, and this has also given him plenty of leverage with Bayern.

"Arsenal are certainly one of the clubs who have looked at Sane. I am hearing less noise around Sane and Spurs at this stage, but part of the reason why was because the player wants Champions League football and up until a few days ago, Tottenham couldn’t offer that. Let’s see if anything materialises now the season has ended, but Bayern haven’t yet given up hope of Sane penning fresh terms."

Arsenal should push for Sané deal

Arsenal need to address a number of positions this summer, with more competition needed across the pitch. The Gunners may have the chance to sign an experienced player who has shown he can succeed in the Premier League by winning titles, something the North London side don’t have too much of in their current squad.

The Gunners have a big budget, but it is not an unlimited one, and that means they will need to save money somewhere. Sané will need a big wage to move on from Bayern, but Arsenal should offer it in the absence of a transfer fee, and that will give them the space to go and get the striker, defender, midfielder and goalkeeper they need to add before the start of next season.
