Nottingham Forest transfer 'unlikely' as player stance made perfectly clear

Nottingham Forest winger Ramon Sosa is said to have made his stance perfectly clear amid speculation about his future at the City Ground.

It proved to be a tough first season in English football for the 25-year-old after last summer’s switch to the City Ground from Talleres. He struggled for game time and mostly found himself on the bench for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

The Reds reportedly turned down a bid from Palmeiras for Sosa in January because he said he did not want to leave. And although the Brazilian outfit have seemingly reignited their interest in the Paraguayan, it seems they are encountering the same issue as earlier in the year.

It was previously reported a quick swoop could be in the offing as Palmeiras wanted to get a deal tied up before the start of the Club World Cup on June 14. But according to Brazilian publication BolaVIP, Sosa is “very unlikely” to put pen to paper for Palmeiras this summer.

They quote journalist Andre Hernan as saying: “Palmeiras’ scout evaluated this player and saw that he is very good. The information that came in was that he did not want to (leave Europe).

“It was believed that (Palmeiras) was interested and would negotiate. The agent said that there was an agreement.

“I spoke to someone from the Palmeiras board and they told me that the chance of him ending up at Palmeiras is very unlikely. The chance is very small.”

Sosa has already addressed the transfer talk and stated his desire to remain in the Premier League. In reference to being linked with Palmeiras, he said in a translated interview earlier this week: “I saw that on social media, but the truth is I didn't hear anything about it. I'm going to stay in the Premier League, always.”

The Paraguayan featured 23 times in the Garibaldi during the 2024/25 season, but made only four starts. He did not get off the bench in Forest’s final three games of the campaign, despite Nuno’s team being in need of positive results to finish in the top five.

“Personally, I'm fine. As everyone has seen, I haven't been playing in consecutive games lately,” Sosa said. “But in practice and physically, I'm feeling very good. We'll see what happens now.”

Sosa is under contract on the banks of the Trent until 2029. Now the summer transfer window is open, strengthening out wide is expected to be on the agenda for the Reds and that could further limit the player’s chances of regular minutes under Nuno.
