And the early suggestions are that it will be. With the sales of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh last June getting the club out of a PSR blackhole and further funds raised through Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly in January, Eddie Howe’s side are understood to be in a healthy financial position.
“As far as I'm aware, we have no PSR issues that are heading into this deadline,” Howe said after last Sunday’s final game of the 2024-25 season against Everton. “I have to put that in there because I'm not seeing the figures and I'm only relaying what I'm getting told.
“I think we're in a lot healthier position, a lot stronger position. And we're looking to reverse what we did last summer where we're in a strong position ourselves to make additions to the squad.”
And Howe wants United to act quickly in the market, or risk missing out on top targets. The opens today (June 1) until June 10 ahead of the FIFA Club World before re opening on June 16 until September 1.
“Speed is key for us,” said Howe. “And I've reiterated that many times internally. Speed is key because we have to be dynamic, we have to be ready to conclude things very, very quickly because good players don't hang around for long.
“That's always been my thought and my message on recruitment, really, because you can have a period where you think you've got time, but then you can look around very quickly and realise that that time's elapsed and you've missed opportunities that you won't get again.
“That's what we'll be trying. But obviously, the reality of that is it's not always in your hands, but we'll be doing our best to do things early.”
