Report: Wolves learn transfer stance of £42m target as ‘fascinated’ verdict emerges amid links

As the summer transfer window opens, Wolves have learned the stance of one rumoured target.

All eyes are on how Fosun support Vitor Pereira over the summer, as Wolves’ future in the top flight hangs in the balance.

Though Pereira turned Wolves’ season around after Gary O’Neil’s dismissal, the manager needs to be backed in order to fulfil his further plans at Molineux.

Pereira has already called for Fosun’s support to bring necessary reinforcements to the West Midlands to move the Old Gold away from the bottom third of the Premier League table next term.

Wolves target Lazio defender Mario Gila

One of the signings of the season was Emmanuel Agbadou, who arrived to finally bolster Wolves’ defence.

Though the Ivorian was the missing piece to the puzzle, it’s becoming clear that Pereira isn’t done restocking in that area.

Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport have detailed Wolves’ reported interest in Lazio centre-back Mario Gila, a player also eyed by Chelsea and Brighton.

Gila, who is an academy product of Real Madrid, played an integral part in Lazio’s Serie A campaign, but it’s uncertain whether the defender will remain in Rome.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

Wolves have been ‘bouncing’ around the possible availability of Gila this summer, and Corriere dello Sport have revealed how the player feels about a transfer to England.

It’s understood that while the Spaniard is ‘fascinated’ by the opportunity to play in the Premier League, Wolves might not be the club for him.

Gila is ‘aiming to play for a club fighting for big goals’, making it clear that he’s eyeing a move that will allow him to challenge for silverware.

That being said, sporting director Matt Hobbs’ proposal could be significant in pulling off an unlikely deal, as the player is also said to be open to signing for a club ‘ready to relaunch itself’.

Wolves won more points than anyone in the Premier League before form dipped off in the run-in to the final day, as Pereira’s work with the squad shared an encouraging insight into how the future could look.

Why Wolves may not even consider Gila transfer

While Gila could be the top-class centre-back that Pereira needs to bolster his defence, there’s a greater stumbling block than merely convincing the player to join the project.

That’s because Lazio are understood to have placed a €50m (£42m) price tag on the 24-year-old due to Real Madrid still owning 50% of the player’s financial rights.

Pereira has hinted that Wolves’ budget is slim; thus, paying £42m for one player is near impossible to imagine.

Currently, it would appear that the Old Gold’s chances of signing Gila are slight, but that hasn’t stopped interest in the defender being reported, making his future something to monitor.
