Report: Lee Grant immediately eyeing raid for Manchester United coach after taking Huddersfield Town job

Manchester United have already lost a couple of youth and development coaches this summer and could now lose another.

Two post-season friendlies are now out of the way and Ruben Amorim can have a brief rest before preparing for the new season.

United lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur but Amorim will be staying in the Old Trafford dugout.

Coaching changes are coming for United, but mostly in the youth and development ranks.

Adam Lawrence is leaving United this summer and David Hughes has departed to join Newport County.

United may need a reshuffle in the Under-18s and Under-21s, especially with another coach now being eyed.

Lee Grant wants Manchester United’s Paul McShane

Huddersfield Town have appointed Lee Grant as their new boss, handing the former United goalkeeper a first step into management.

Grant was a popular figure at United and became a key part of Kieran McKenna’s coaching staff at Ipswich Town.

Now preparing for a League One promotion push, Grant is looking to build out his coaching staff at Huddersfield.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon now reports that Grant wants to raid United immediately for the services of Paul McShane.

Grant and McShane know each other from their time at United and could reunite in West Yorkshire.

McShane currently serves as an Under-15 coach in United’s academy, whilst also working in the Republic of Ireland Under-21 setup.

The prospect of first-team coaching at Huddersfield – and joining forces with Grant again – could appeal to McShane, who may be left with a decision to make in the coming weeks.

Lee Grant on Huddersfield Town move

Grant may have only been a backup goalkeeper at United, but he almost became something of a cult hero in his time at Old Trafford.

Now heading into management for the first time, United fans will surely wish Grant all the best in his move to Huddersfield.

Speaking to Huddersfield’s official website, Grant vowed to bring a ‘high standard of work’ to the Terriers.

Grant outlined his desire to ‘demand a lot’ from the Huddersfield squad, but is determined to help all of his players grow and develop.

“Firstly, I am who I am – the players will find that out quite quickly,” said Grant. “I am an enthusiastic guy, I want to work, I want to set a really high tempo and a high standard of work. I don’t have any doubts on how I want the team to look and feel, I know that it’s a style in a way that the Club and the players can resonate with and get behind.

“I’m going to demand a lot from the boys, the way we train and the way we work will demand that we take control of the football. We’ll give them plenty of pictures and lots of ideas on how to do that, but in terms of the challenge that will be put in front of the players on a day-to-day basis, I think the fans will appreciate it.

“I want the players and staff to come into work every day with a real enthusiasm and hunger, ready to work and ready to learn as well. I’m here to help the players be better. I’m here to help the players grow,” he added.

Whether Grant calls up United for some potential loan deals remains to be seen, but he may well raid the coaching ranks as he gets down to work.
