Report: Nottingham Forest eye 'excellent' 11-cap free agent, several clubs want to sign him

Nottingham Forest are going to be in the market for a number of players ahead of a first campaign playing in Europe for 30 years next season.

The Reds qualified for the UEFA Conference League after finishing seventh in the Premier League and under the influence of Nuno Espirito Santo, the Reds enjoyed a really successful season.

It could well be that strikers at the order of the day for the transfer market. Chris Wood scored 20 goals during the 2024/25 campaign, but at 33-years-old, it’d be unfair to expect him to play in four competitions next season.

Forest are close to signing Igor Jesus to bolster the squad. The Brazilian will join after the Club World Cup, and the Reds will almost certainly go on the offensive for another striker too.

Nottingham Forest want Dominic Calvert-Lewin

According to reports, Forest are one of the clubs that are considering offering a contract to Calvert-Lewin following his release from Everton after nine years with the Merseyside outfit.

Calvert-Lewin has struggled for fitness over the last couple of years and subsequently, he scored just three goals and registered two assists during the 2024/25 campaign.

The 28-year-old will have plenty of clubs keen to take him on a free transfer and according to The Sun, Forest are now considering a move to bring him to the City Ground on a free transfer.

Calvert-Lewin scored 71 goals in total and claimed 22 assists from 273 appearances, with the talisman also scoring four goals from 11 England appearances during his time at Goodison Park.

Forest should tread with caution over Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The Reds have come a long way in terms of recruitment since the first summer back in the Premier League that saw the club land 30 players across two transfer windows.

Jesse Lingard has made some scathing Forest claims this week, and this signing feels like one that might need to be filed in the same category.

On his day, Calvert-Lewin is decent at Premier League level, with Sean Dyche calling him ‘excellent’ when he was in charge of the Toffees.

On a free transfer, perhaps there is little risk in bringing him in for free, but with a significant salary likely to be demanded by the player, Forest have to be careful.

It’s vital that the club don’t undo all of their hard work in the transfer market and Calvert-Lewin should be viewed as a last resort talisman.
