Departing Leicester City goalkeeper Danny Ward is reportedly on the radar of newly-promoted side Wrexham.
Ward is one of three senior players set to leave the King Power Stadium on free transfers this summer. Along with fellow keeper Daniel Iversen and striker Jamie Vardy, the 31-year-old will officially depart when his Foxes contract expires at the end of this month.
Ward already has his admirers as he contemplates his next move. It could be that he comes up against City in the Championship next term.
According to The Sun, Wrexham are keen on the Welshman. It is said the Red Dragons “want to offer” Ward the chance to rejoin the club where he started his career as they prepare for life in the second tier after winning promotion from League One.
For his part, it is suggested the shot-stopper “could leap at” the opportunity to return to his homeland. Ward came up through the ranks at Wrexham before he joined Liverpool in 2012.
The Wales international spent six years at Anfield before leaving for City in 2018 in a £12 million deal. He made 29 league appearances during his stint with the Foxes.

Announcing the departures of Ward, Iversen and Vardy, City said last month: “We can confirm that three senior professionals – Jamie Vardy, Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen - will leave us following the expiration of their contracts at the end of next month. All three leave with the heartfelt thanks of everybody at Leicester City for their contributions during their time at King Power Stadium, as well as our best wishes for the next chapters in their careers.”
After making the switch from Liverpool, Ward was Kasper Schmeichel’s deputy at the King Power Stadium for four years before taking over as number one in 2022-23. However, he could not replicate the form he had shown in his cup outings, and he was replaced by Iversen for the final few matches of the campaign.
Ward’s 52nd and final run-out for the club came in the 3-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers last December. He made a couple of errors, which led to him being booed by the home supporters and then taken out of the firing line by boss Ruud van Nistelrooy thereafter.
Van Nistelrooy explained shortly afterwards: “The conversation with Wardy was impressive, I have to share with you. The way he was thinking of the team and the club and the performance of his team-mates, I was impressed with that. I insisted on the conversation. It’s a private conversation but what I want to share is the person and professional that he is.
"It was really tough on him, what happened to him. We’re professionals but we’re human beings as well. When frustration is being directed to one person in particular, that’s tough on someone. That’s what we spoke about."
