Celtic ponder transfer raid for Aston Villa academy graduate amid Premier League competition

A former Aston Villa academy player has been earmarked by Celtic as a possible back-up for Kieran Tierney who is returning to the Scottish club from Arsenal

Celtic are said to be considering a move for Villa academy graduate Harley Mills, who is now at Peterborough.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to make moves this summer to further improve the Scottish champions ahead of their title defence, and has already secured the return of former player Kieran Tierney on a pre-contract from Arsenal.

He is looking to further reinforce his left-back options after Tierney was brought in to replace Greg Taylor - and a former Aston Villa academy player could be the man for the job.

Harley Mills is a 19-year-old attacking left back who currently plays at Peterborough United. Prior to arriving at London Road, he spent nine years learning his trade as part of the Villa academy. He left for Peterborough in 2021 and has now made several appearances for the league one club's first team.

According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic have Mills in their sights as a ‘potential’ option, but it appears the young defender is also in demand elsewhere — with Fulham reportedly putting in a £1m bid for the teenager.

The West London club is believed to want to continue to develop Mills with the player expected to slot into their under-23s side.

Mills has just a year remaining on his current contract and is yet to agree to fresh terms, despite Peterborough recently presenting him with a new offer.

Mills has turned heads this season after making a good impression and also scoring a spectacular goal in the EFL trophy final against Birmingham. The former Villa player signed a professional contract at Peterborough in the middle of 2023 after spending two years at the club's academy.
