The La Liga giants are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona have opened talks to terminate the contract of one current player, despite him enjoying an impressive turn of form in La Liga last season.

With the 2024/25 football season now over and the first transfer window of the summer officially open, all eyes are on the market as several top clubs in Europe are expected to make some big deals.

Off the back of winning La Liga this season, Barcelona are just one of the clubs expected to be busy in the summer, with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Luis Diaz both linked with a move.

However, it appears that incomings are not the only thing that the Spanish giants are focusing on this summer, as a new report has claimed that they have started conversations over terminating the contract of one of their current players.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Barcelona have already started working on streamlining the squad and ensuring their finances in in order and within the Financial Fair Play regulations, ahead of next season.

As part of this work, the La Liga side have decided to part ways with 29-year-old defender Clement Lenglet, with the Frenchmen not believed to be a part of manager Hansi Flick's plans despite his substantial salary.

Currently, Lenglet's contract with Barcelona is set to expire in June next year, but discussions with the player and his team are already underway as they hope his contract can be terminated a year early.

With the centre-back reported to be earning a spectacular €16 million (£13.48) per year, negotiations are not easy, but both sides hope that they will conclude in the near future.

Barcelona have previously made several attempts to sell the French international, but these wages have caused difficulty in negotiations, leading to him spending considerable time on loan.

His most recent loan spell was a highly successful one with La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid, who are believed to be interested in securing him as a free agent should he become available this summer.

However, if the Frenchman is available as a free agent in the summer, then a move to the Premier League could become an option given his previous experience in England with Tottenham Hotspur.
