Aston Villa are reportedly open to a new loan deal for Emiliano Buendia amid interest from Leeds United.
Villa have several loanees returning to Bodymoor Heath who remain under contract and, for now at least, are expected to report for pre-season training as scheduled over the coming weeks following their summer break.
Buendia was loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen for the second half of the season after extending his Villa contract until 2027. Leverkusen opted not to pursue a permanent deal for the Argentine, and his opportunities under Unai Emery could once again be limited next season.
According to The Sun, Villa are seeking a new loan destination for Buendia - with the playmaker said to be eager for a Premier League opportunity.
However, there remains some doubt around whether Buendia will be able to return to his previous performance levels following a cruciate ligament injury. That setback saw him miss the whole of the 2023/2024 season.
Nonetheless, Daniel Farke remains an admirer of the 28-year-old, having previously worked with him. Farke said: "If he's not in a white shirt or a yellow shirt we don't speak about them.
"We just speak about business when it's done. I think he just spoke in general about this, the door is perhaps open.
"I've also read the comments because I'm interested in football and also the Premier League. I think he just spoke in general and he has not said the door is open for Leeds United, he's said it's open for a loan.
"Obviously I've worked with Emi Buendia in former years, he was one of my best players, I really rate him but I don't comment on the situation of a player right now playing for a different side."
Buendia made 121 appearances for Farke while they were at Norwich City together. That is, by far, the most he has featured under a single coach, with Emery next, at 46 appearances.
All that being said, with the summer transfer window now officially open, the Whites' main focus is to sign a new goalkeeper and striker. The left-back position could also be addressed if Junior Firpo leaves on a free transfer amid interest from Lyon.
