The Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff is finally getting healthy, with several players having already returned and a few nearly ready. Southpaws Aaron Ashby and DL Hall returned to the ball club in late May, Brandon Woodruff is expected back around June 8-9, and on Sunday, before the series finale against the Phillies, Jose Quintana was activated.
In order to make room for Quintana, the Brewers DFA’d another lefty in Tyler Alexander. The 30 year old saw his ERA rise to 6.19 on the season following an outing the day before where he allowed five runs in the ninth inning.

30 year old Tyler Alexander signed a one year, $1.0 million deal with Milwaukee this February. Injuries forced him into the starting rotation in April. As a starter, he threw 5.2 scoreless innings against the Reds during his first start, allowed two earned runs against the Rockies on April 9, and then four earned runs (eight runs all together) against the Tigers on April 14 before returning to the bullpen.
Overall this season, Alexander has not been great. Across 21 games, he allowed earned runs in 12 appearances, that included six of 12 outings during the month of May. All of this spiked his ERA to a career worst ERA of 6.19.

With Alexander struggling to find consistency, and the Brewers getting healthier and having more effective options to choose from, Milwaukee is turning the page as they look to stabilize their pitching staff for the heart of the season
