Patriots Could Make Surprise Move With Stefon Diggs

The New England Patriots rolled the dice to get their star wide receiver in free agency.

Unfortunately, his tenure there might be short-lived.

In the wake of his controversial video from Memorial Day weekend, it now seems like the team could move on from Stefon Diggs.

According to a report by Scott Zolak of 98.5 The Sports Hub, the team is weighing in on the possibility of releasing Diggs, and it’s not just because of the video:

> “I came to this show yesterday with the opinion — not opinion, but the knowledge that it is on the table,” Zolak [said](https://www.nbcsportsboston.com/nfl/new-england-patriots/stefon-diggs-release-possibility-boat-scott-zolak/712015/) of Patriots potentially releasing Diggs. “That it is being thought of. And it’s not just the boat. It’s not just the boat. There are some other things that I’ve heard that put some things in question. Are you all-in here?”

Diggs, who’s still away from the team while he recovers from an ACL tear, was spotted in a boat with several women while in possession of an unidentified pink substance.

He has a long and well-documented history of power struggles and locker room issues.

He seemingly forced his way out of the Minnesota Vikings before overstaying his welcome with the Buffalo Bills, and while he’s been one of the best pass-catchers in the league for the past six years or so, he’s also entering the backend of his prime.

Diggs hauled in 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdowns in eight games with the Houston Texans before an ACL tear cut his season short.

Of course, the Patriots don’t have a lot of options in their wide receivers corps, so they might have no choice but to hold onto him.

And while he wasn’t their first or even second option, they’re not likely to do better at this point in the offseason.
