Alabama wide receivers, Ryan Williams and Isaiah Horton joined former NFL head coach Jon Gruden on his Youtube channel recently and shared they love what they are doing in Ryan Grubb’s system so far.
Williams is coming off of an impressive freshman campaign. Things are expected to be a bit different for him in 2025 with Grubb now in Tuscaloosa and with the Tide set to have a new starting quarterback.
With all of these changes taking hold of the Alabama offense, both he and Horton are enjoying learning the Grubb system.
“It makes you learn the game because it’s more pro-style, just us breaking from the huddle and you have to fully understand the entire play,” Williams said. “You can’t just be like ‘okay, this only applies to me.’ In order to truly understand the play, you got to understand every part of it.”
The sophomore also gave some insight into the way Alabama plans to use him in the fall.
“Inside, outside just because last year I played a lot of outside,” said Williams. “So, just trying to put some different stuff on tape.”
Horton transferred to Alabama from Miami at the end of the 2024 season. He also told Gruden how Alabama plans to use him.
“I am primarily the X right now, but it is certain packages they got me where I’m inside when we get that one on one matchups,” Horton said.
Both wideouts are expected to be reliable weapons for whoever earns Alabama’s starting quarterback job in 2025.
