Sheikh Jassim has been reported to be eyeing a Manchester United takeover which follows an unsuccessful takeover bid before the arrival of Jim Ratcliffe – who currently owns a 25% share of Manchester United.
The Qatari initially looked to takeover Manchester United in 2023 but withdrew from the bidding process in October 2023 which opened the door to Ratcliffe to present his bid towards the Glazer Family – the current majority stakeholder in Manchester United.
Since Ratcliffe’s takeover, the club has gone under a large amount of change with a large extent of reduced spending, 450 redundancies and United’s worst league finish in 50 years – finishing the furthest away from Europe since the competition’s change from European Cup status.
Jassim’s Initial Bid
When Jassim and Ratcliffe went head to head for what seemed like the Manchester United ownership, it was considered among many to be one of the biggest decisions in Manchester United’s history.
The Qatari man proposed a £4.5bn deal with extra investment to remove the debt that was present in the club at the time. As well as this, it proposed that Jassim would buy out the entirety of the Glazer’s shares in the club.
It offered a fresh change, a change in ownership and a change in perspective. Yet, even when Ratcliffe was announced as a new stakeholder, it felt like a end decision hadn’t been reached.
The Glazer family still held the majority power in United and still hold it to this day, to the hate of many Red Devil fans who have protested in their thousands and will still continue to do so whilst the Glazers remain in change of the club.
The Takeover’s Potential
Whether this takeover bid may seem unrealistic on the surface, the potential the takeover holds is limitless – both in the wealth they would bring to the club and the change they would interlink into their concept of Manchester United.
