United legend David Beckham has strongly condemned the Manchester United player’s behaviour during their post-season tour in Malaysia.
Beckham, who made 265 appearances for the Red Devils in the years spanning the years 1992 to 2003, expressed his concern with United currently saying “I don’t like seeing what’s happening at the club” claiming that he sees “a lot of things that are not acceptable” within the club currently.
United, who embarked on their first ever post-season tour during this trip, played two fixtures whilst in Asia in both Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong as the Reds faced Asean All Stars and Hong Kong.
In the first of these matches, Amorim’s team lost 1-0 due to a Maung Maung Lwin goal which was met with anger and disappointment from United supporters.
However, the Red Devils were able to correct this in their next game against Hong Kong with a 3-1 win. This game saw Chido Obi take centre stage with the youngster scoring twice to bring the Reds from behind to in front.
Manchester United’s Player Behaviour
But, it was not the games themselves that were criticised the most. Instead, it was the behaviour of the players whilst on the tour which concerned fans and former players such as Beckham alike.
Following their defeat to Asean All Stars which had already built a foundation of disappointment within the United fanbase, Alejandro Garnacho flicked his middle finger towards fans in the stadium. This was an act which brought much anger within the fanbase.
This disrespect of the fanbase, who some of which had travelled to see the team play, contrasts largely with the tours that legends such as Beckham had embarked on where players would show immense respect, sign autographs and allow fans to get pictures with players.
The former United player also expressed his concern saying that he had “seen a lot of things where players didn’t act in the right way.” With concerns coming from legends such as Beckham and with the club looking to be in a time of critical status, this summer will be crucial in Manchester United’s future.
