Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri will be looking to win a spot in the England u21 squad for this summer’s European Championships during a training camp at St. George’s Park.

In late May, Arsenal midfielder Ethan Nwaneri was named in Lee Carsley’s extended England u21 squad for a training camp at St. George’s Park.

The call-up puts Nwaneri in contention for the u21 European Championships this summer, but he’s not guaranteed a place in the final squad. Carsley initially called up 29 players for the training camp, but only 23 will make his squad for the tournament – to be announced on Friday, June 6th.

This week therefore represents something of a tryout for the players involved.

The 2025 UEFA European u21 Championship kicks off on June 11th, running until June 28th. The tournament begins with a group stage, with four groups and four teams in each.

England are in Group B, alongside the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Germany. Only the top two teams in each group will progress to the quarter-finals on June 21st-22nd.

Arsenal don’t currently have any pre-season fixtures on the schedule before July 23rd, so even if Nwaneri and the England u21s make it all the way to the final on June 28th, he’d still have more than three weeks for his holidays. But he’d be likely to miss the early weeks of training in that scenario.
