Joe Milton III Gets Honest About Being Traded To Cowboys

The New England Patriots had a bit of a quarterback conundrum.

They were fully sold on Drake Maye, but with Joe Milton III drawing some buzz, they chose to trade him to the Dallas Cowboys so he could get an opportunity somewhere else.

Jerry Jones got him for a fifth-round pick, and Milton claimed that he thought he deserved a chance to compete for a starting spot, which wasn’t going to happen in Foxboro.

Now, weeks after joining his new team, he opened up on what it felt like to join the Cowboys:

“The only thing I could have done, well, the only thing I did at that moment was to thank God,” Milton said. “Coming here was a blessing. I didn’t know it was going to be here. … I didn’t know where I was going to end up. I was just thankful to go to work. [But now I’m] back in the heat, for one. He allowed me to play in the dome, for two. And, three, it’s America’s team. Also, it’s just great to learn from someone like Dak [Prescott].”

Milton turned plenty of heads as a rookie.

Although he only played in the preseason and the regular-season finale, he showcased the physical traits that could make him a solid dual-threat quarterback at the next level.

He has one of the strongest arms in the league, and his ability to scramble and pick up yards with his legs is also enticing.

Of course, the Cowboys already have a starter in Dak Prescott, but there have always been doubts about his long-term outlook with the organization.

He’s struggled with injuries in the past, and Jerry Jones has always seemed to be non-committal about him.

The Cowboys will start a new era with Brian Schottenheimer as head coach, which opens the door for a change at quarterback.

Even if it doesn’t happen this season, they will most likely give him an extended look and some strong consideration at some point.
