The 20-year-old left-back's contract at Portman Road expired this summer, 14 years after he first joined the Blues along with twin brother Finley, aged six. Their father Matthew was a youth player with Town in the 1980s.

Barbrook was on loan with the Clarets in the second half of 2024/25, making 18 appearances in all competitions. His twin had a spell with the Essex side in 2023/24.
Barbrook also had loan stints with Lowestoft Town and Braintree, where he previously worked with new Chelmsford boss Angelo Harrop.
During his spell at Town he was a regular for the under-21s side, but now takes the next steps in his career.
On moving to Chelmsford permanently, Barbrook said: “It’s really good to be back at the club, I really enjoyed my time here both as a fan watching Finley and during my time on loan last season.
“It’s going to be exciting to work with Angelo again as well as getting to work with the rest of the staff, most of who I know already.
“I’m just really excited to be back and I’m looking forward to getting going again!”
Chelmsford will be moving into a full-time model ahead of the 2025/26 season.
