The Pittsburgh Steelers waited until the sixth round of the NFL Draft to add another body to their QB room.
They took Ohio State star Will Howard, who was fresh off leading the Buckeyes to a national championship.
However, as good as he was in college, most scouts saw him as a backup at the next level.
Then again, given the uncertainty surrounding the Steelers’ QB room, he might actually be in a position to be a starter.
Nevertheless, Mason Rudolph has taken him under his wing, and instead of competing with him, he mentors him and embraces him.
With that in mind, Howard gushed about his veteran teammate, pointing out how good he’s been to him and how much he’s helped him bounce back after a somewhat disappointing start to OTAs:

Super good dude, super welcoming. Meeting Mason, I knew we’d hit it off, and he’s a great dude, man. He’s helped me a lot and look forward to continuing to work with him.”
Howard threw for a career-high 4,010 passing yards in his final season in Columbus.
He also posted career-bests in completion percentage (73%) while throwing for 35 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions.
While he’s not the usual dual-threat quarterback, he also showed a willingness to scramble and pick up additional yards with his legs, even if that meant taking a big hit.
The Steelers are still waiting to see whether Aaron Rodgers will sign with them or not, which is obviously far from ideal at this point in the offseason.
And if Rodgers leaves them hanging, they might have no choice but to give Howard a look early on, as Rudolph has already shown that he’s not a long-term solution at the position.
