It’s official – Matheus Cunha is no longer a Wolves player after completing a transfer to Manchester United.
After weeks and months of speculation, the Brazilian has departed Molineux to join the Red Devils, who are paying Wolves £62.5 million over the next three years.
Manchester United wanted to pay Matheus Cunha’s clause over five years initially, but Wanderers insisted on it being paid in three as per the terms of the clause.
Cunha leaves Wolves after two-and-a-half years at the club.
He arrived in January 2023 from Atletico Madrid, and after taking a few months to adapt to English football, established himself as a top player in the Premier League.
It will be very difficult to replace him, but Wolves have shown they can win games without him.
Cunha became a rather polarising figure towards the end of his spell at Wolves – and yesterday Steve Bull offered his verdict on the star.

Cunha will go down as one of Wolves’ best players of the modern era.
MORE WOLVES STORIES
He was unplayable at times, and could do things that no other player in the squad could do.
Some have not been too happy with some of the things he’s done in 2025 though. Cunha himself admitted to making mistakes in the goodbye post he wrote to fans on social media recently.
But for Steve Bull, he’s a supreme talent who will be missed at Molineux.
He said in his latest E&S column: “He is a world-class player, and I think you could put him in any side and he would fit in really well. If he does go it will be a very sad loss because he has been a big part of the club in recent times.
“But, as I always say, faces come and faces go, you have to just get on with the next chapter.
“Wolves fans will say thank you very much Mr Cunha, you have been absolutely brilliant for us. On behalf of the supporters, I would like to wish him all the very best if he does go.”

Wolves will miss Cunha’s game-changer potential
So Cunha has now left Wolves, and many will actually be fairly relieved about his exit.
The saga has been relentless over the past few weeks, and a lot of supporters have just been waiting for the official confirmation so that focus can shift back to the team. That can happen now.

Appearances – 92
Goals – 33
Assists – 15
As much as Wolves have looked quite good without Cunha in recent times, his potential to change games in an instant will be a major miss.
He’s that player who can conjure up moments of magic, which really has been invaluable for Wolves.
We will now see how the club respond, but there is no denying Cunha is one of the best players in Wolves’ recent history.
