Manchester United are looking to continue their summer transfer window business after the window opened today.
The club have already started with force announcing the signing of Matheus Cunha on a deal worth up to £62.5 million.
This signing aims to build on an already strong striker base. Furthermore, the transfer aims to fill the arguably cursed striker void that has been present since Cristiano Ronaldo left the club and joined Al Nassr.
The club are now reported to be looking at strengthening the defence of the United team following the 2024-25 season. This is reported to be starting in the goalkeeping department through the targeting of Champions League winner Gianluigi Donnarumma who is tipped to be contending for the 2025 Ballon O’Dor.
Donnarumma’s Career and Strengths
The goalkeeper, who joined PSG in 2021, has embarked on a very successful career so far with the number 1 starting his career at Milan where he made 251 appearances and won the Super Cup in the 2016-17 season.
Donnarumma then moved to PSG on a free transfer where he currently resides. Here, the goalkeeper has made 154 appearances winning Ligue 1 4 times, the Coupe de France twice and the trophee des champions on three occasions.
In his career, the Italian has also won Euro 2020 in July of 2021 with the 26 year old making 2 crucial saves in the final during the penalty shootout against England.
If the Italian international was to move to Old Trafford, he would enter a starting position starting over current Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana who has gone viral across social media for his goalkeeping performances several times during the season.
The goalkeeper has many strengths in his gameplay including his height which sits at 6ft 5in. This makes him a commanding force during set piece situations and penalties.
Furthermore, with a 85.4% passing accuracy and a 44.6% long ball accuracy, the goalkeeper excels in distribution the ball – both in shorter and longer situations.
Other Competition
Manchester United are not on their own in the race for the 26 year old with local rivals Manchester City and Inter Milan also reported to have registered their interest in the goalkeeper. With several clubs interested in the goalkeeper, can United sign the PSG number 1?
