Liverpool look set to sell Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford, despite him playing a big part in their 2024/25 Premier League title win. This may be the best course of action for his own career, and will be a big coup for the Bees, whilst Liverpool have their replacement ready-made.
Liverpool to Sell Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford After Strong Season
Goalkeeper Merry-Go-Round
This news comes after the ongoing saga that Brentford’s current number one, Mark Flekken, is being poached by Bayer Leverkusen. Flekken will return to his home country and surely replace the ageing Lukas Hradecky in net. Die Werkself will pay around £8.5 million (rising to £11 million) for the goalkeeper after a pretty strong 2024/25 campaign, following a disappointing debut Premier League season.

The Bees, meanwhile, have looked to their fellow English clubs for a replacement, and settled on Kelleher. They will pay £12.5 million up-front, with add-ons potentially taking the fee to a respectable £18 million.
Ambitious Business From Brentford Poaching Caoimhin Kelleher
Brentford have done very well in replacing Flekken, with arguably a better player for a fee not too much higher. Whilst Kelleher has only played 25 games for Liverpool, when he has come in for a consistent run of games, he has performed very well. He has played 20 games this season, mostly in a strong run for the side from late September until early December – a crucial period as the Reds began their title charge.
He was described as a “quiet hero”, and not for the first time. Last season he had a similar run of games during an Alisson Becker injury in which he helped the side win a Carabao Cup.

Kelleher is proven in the Premier League and has experience playing at the top level; this is a great signing and may help Brentford finally achieve the European football that they have been chasing.
Liverpool Have Ready-Made Caoimhin Kelleher Replacement
Whilst Kelleher was a pretty big asset for the Reds, they already have their replacement ready. Liverpool signed Giorgi Mamardashvili last summer, before sending him back on loan to Valencia. Now, the Georgian will link up with his new teammates and be Alisson’s back-up, which will be important as the Brazilian has suffered injuries in the past two seasons, and is now 32-years-old.
Furthermore, at 24-years-old, he will not only be the Kelleher replacement now, but likely the Alisson replacement in the future.
