Arsenal target and Sporting ace Viktor Gyokeres has given his verbal agreement ahead of a potential move to the Emirates, Sky Sports' Sacha Tavolieri has revealed.
Boss Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen in the centre-forward position, with it becoming clear over the course of the 2024/25 season that the team lacks a reliable talisman to be the focal point in attack.
The Gunners have been linked with an array of strikers as such, including the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak, though they may now have an advantage in the race for Gyokeres.

Arteta wants a new striker this summer
In a report to X (formerly Twitter), Tavolieri confirmed that Gyokeres had given the green light to a move to Arsenal, as the side continued their search for a new striker. He wrote:
Dubbed "unstoppable", Gyokeres has been one of the best strikers on the planet, amassing a remarkable 54 league goals and serving up a further 12 assists in just 52 outings. Fabrizio Romano has previously indicated that he is poised for a move this summer, with Sporting awaiting offers in the region of €65 million (£55 million) to sanction a deal.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are still weighing up their options, despite Gyokeres' verbal agreement. An insider reported that the Gunners were keen to land Leipzig's Sesko as their first choice - the Slovenian reportedly has an €80 million (£67 million) release clause inserted into his contract, and negotiations are underway between the clubs.
However, Arteta and his entourage are yet to strike a personal agreement with the 21-year-old, and they may turn to alternative options should their pursuit for Sesko's signature fall through.
