Premier League winner’s departure from Liverpool confirmed

When you win a title, it’s easy to assume that everything is settled.

But sometimes, even a champion knows it’s time to go.

That’s the reality at Liverpool right now.

The squad just clinched another Premier League crown, but the competition for places remains fierce.

And in some positions, especially in goal, playing time is hard to come by.

It’s a common problem for top clubs. You need depth. You need options.

But it also means some players sit out for long stretches.

And that can be tough—especially when the player knows he could be starting somewhere else.

That’s been the situation for one Liverpool man for a while now.

Despite being part of another title-winning campaign, he started just a handful of league matches.

Now, the move is finally happening.

Caoimhin Kelleher is leaving Liverpool.

Brentford have agreed an initial £12.5m deal for the 26-year-old goalkeeper.

The fee could rise to £18m depending on performance-related add-ons.

He is expected to undergo a medical on Monday, as per Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas.

Kelleher’s departure opens the door for Mark Flekken to complete his own move to Bayer Leverkusen.

Brentford and Leverkusen have agreed a fee in the region of £11m, and the Dutchman is also lined up for a medical.

This isn’t a sudden deal.

Brentford have tracked Kelleher for years.

But Liverpool were only open to letting him go after signing Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia last summer.

Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson had publicly called for Kelleher to find a new challenge.

Speaking earlier in May, he said, “I just want him to go to a club where he will play on a regular basis.”

“He has been playing at the highest level, whether it’s the Champions League or the Premier League, and done really well.”

“I just want him to be happy and playing regularly.”

“I know he wants to be playing at the highest level. I guess – I don’t know for sure – he will be playing at the highest level.”

“He has spoken about that himself. I don’t mind [where], so long as he’s playing on a regular basis because he is too good not to be playing.”

Now, that wish is being fulfilled.

Kelleher leaves Anfield with two Premier League titles and 22 international caps.

But more importantly, he finally gets to be the No. 1.
